KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • It’s normal for leaders to sometimes feel the impostor syndrome. We’re all human beings. Sometimes, despite being successful, we feel we lack internally of
  • Leaders don’t like talking to other leaders about their weaknesses. You think they might have high expectations of you. You might be perceived as weak but it’s okay. You have to feel the vulnerability of being human.
  • The more real you are, the better you are. More intuitive and powerful decisions come.
  • Kul’s dream since he was a kid was to be a police officer. It started settling in his mindset when he was little. Being a police officer meant safety, security, commitment, peacekeeping, etc. Kul thought it was a powerful role to play in the community. Better keep feeding your dream. Kul sent out applications and got 26 rejections. His dream was too strong, he couldn’t give up. He got his dream on the 27th.
  • You need to be hungry for your dream. You’ll earn a resilience if you want it enough. You’re gonna have challenging days. Kul became a leader.
  • According to Kul, if you want your organization to excel in a marked but sustainable way, you have to change your culture. It doesn’t matter if it’s only 10 people or a big 500 group is working under you, Kul does what he terms as ‘management walkabouts’. He talks and connects to every individual. It is only this way you realize the true expertise and depth within your staff.
  • There are two types of leadership: dissonance and resonance. Dissonance is leading in such a way you’re creating a gap between you and the people you’re leading while resonance is about building and bridging the gap with those who you are leading.
  • The moment you’re influencing the outcome for others, you’re a leader. We are at some point in our lives have experienced being a leader.
  • Build human relationships. Talk to your admin lady. Talk to the assistant. They’re the gatekeepers. Talk to the people who know exactly what the process is. Be pleasant to everybody.
  • Remove negativity from your life. People that bring you a bad mood on a daily basis need to be cut off. It doesn’t matter if it’s a family, a friend, or a workmate. Sometimes, it’s healthier if you communicate with them not often as you’re used to. It does not have to be every day.
  • Don’t bottle up everything inside of you. Chances are you’re going to burst at the wrong moment at the wrong time. Let it out. Cry if you have to. Be much more authentic. Be the real you. You’ll be stronger and better.
  • Be authentic to yourself. You want to be seen as you. Show what your passions are. the values are what decides what’s right for you.
  • Every human being has inner spirit. Most don’t know we got it. Most who know it won’t ignite it. Those who recognize it and ignite it are the only people who understand and realize that it’s immense power.
  • Find people who resonate with you and will help you in your journey. You can’t do everything yourself. Get talented people so you can focus on what you do best.
  • Feed your mind. Move your body. Meditate.
  • Kul considers his granddad as his mentor. His granddad came from India with nothing. Kul admires his humility and work ethics.
  • Among his mentors also are John C. Maxwell, Tony Robbins, Liz Brown.

BEST MOMENTS

  • “Any human being needs a safe person and a safe place they can offload to.”

ABOUT THE HOST

Jay Dhillon is a serial entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist based in the UK with a proven track record of growing businesses from start-up to success- and helping others do the same. From humble beginnings, Jay grew his first business from 0-500 employees and three locations, racking up sales of over £30 million – all without any investment other than a small amount of savings. The business went on to acquire major clients such as Landrover, Jaguar, Toyota and New Look, to name a few.

Its huge success inevitably brought about outside interest and at the age of 33, Jay eventually sold the company to a London investment firm in Doyen Resources. Today, Jay owns several businesses in different sectors and helps entrepreneurs achieve success.

A calling to give back and help others led to Jay being chosen for the highly-coveted role as a Prince’s Trust mentor, where his achievements were marked by a personal invitation to Buckingham Palace to meet Prince Charles.

After helping several young entrepreneurs to success as a mentor for the Trust, Jay’s burning desire to bring his wisdom and knowledge to a wider audience ultimately triggered the concept of The Business Mentor Podcast.

Jay feels that anyone can achieve success in business with the right advice and mentoring and is now sharing his knowledge with his growing audience via his podcast.

In the UK alone 95% of business fail within the first five years and Jay’s aim is to reduce that number.

Backed with the hard-earned knowledge and experience from his time in business, The Business Mentor Podcast will share Jay’s personal business lessons as well those of other successful entrepreneur guests who share their wisdom and secrets on the show.
