Zimbabwe's Minister of Information and Communication Technology to impose a fine of 1000 US dollars and 7 years imprisonment for unlicensed WhatsApp groups

Zimbabwe's Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda Mavetera says she will impose a fine of 1000 US dollars and 7 years imprisonment for unlicensed WhatsApp groups.

The minister says this Statutory Instrument under the Cyber and Data Protection Act, states that those collecting personally identifiable information (PII) such as names, addresses, and phone numbers from social media groups for commercial use must apply for a data controller license.
