Zambia has started importing electricity from South Africa and Zimbabwe.
A spokesperson for the Zambian state-owned power utility Zesco says imports began on August 1st in an aim to assist in addressing the power deficit in the country.
It is also imported electricity from Mozambique.
Following a drought in the 2023-24 rainy season, the country lost one-thousand megawatts of power generation, which led to consumers facing an average daily routine of 12 hours of rolling blackouts.
