The United Nations World Food Programme , WFP Mozambique has developed an El Niño Response Strategy targeting 1-point-1 million people for 6 months from November to April 2025, prioritising the worst affected districts and population in the emergency phase to prevent further deterioration of food insecurity and malnutrition which are already very critical.

WFP's response will focus on the provinces of Gaza, Inhambane, Sofala, Manica, and Tete.

Malawi's energy regulator has announced a sharp increase in fuel prices for the second time in four months, citing the need to avert fuel shortages and conserve scarce foreign exchange. Petrol prices have risen by nearly fourty-two percent, while diesel has gone up by about 41%, according to the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA).

The move comes as President Peter Mutharika's administration seeks to stabilise the economy, negotiate a new support programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), restructure public debt, and rebuild dwindling foreign reserves.

While supporting a sliding‑scale royalty system that boosts state revenue at higher gold prices, the chamber says the current plan would push Ghana up the global tax curve, risking stalled projects and job losses. The warning follows government plans to double royalties and introduce long-term investment stability agreements amid rising gold prices.
