Uganda is set to receive a major financial boost from the World Bank after nearly two years of suspended lending. The global lender has pledged more than two billion dollars in new financing over the next three financial years to support key development projects. According to Finance Ministry Permanent Secretary Ramathan Ggoobi, the funds will target sectors such as transport, energy, ICT, and agriculture. The move marks the World Bank’s renewed engagement with Uganda following a freeze linked to the country’s controversial anti-LGBTQ law. Thami Ngubeni spoke to Godber Tumushabe, Associate Director at the Great Lakes Institute for Strategic Studies, a Kampala-based policy think tank.
