US President Donald Trump is hosting five leaders from West Africa, as the White House seeks to strengthen economic ties with the mineral-rich region, while fostering trade to counter the growing regional influence of Russia and China. During a meeting with the leaders of Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania and Senegal, Trump indicated that his administration is committed to strengthening the US's friendships in Africa through economic development efforts that benefit both the United States and its partners.
