The Nigerian government has banned the export of raw shea nuts to help the country become a global supplier of refined shea butter and other skin care ingredients.
The ban will be in place for six months, after which it will be reviewed.
The country's Vice-President Kashim Shettima says the decision is not an anti-trade policy but a "pro-value addition policy designed to secure raw materials for our processing factories and also push Nigeria's earnings from the fruit of the shea nut trees grow from 65million to 300million US dollars annually.
