The Alliance of Sahel States namely Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger have introduced a 0.5% levy on imported goods from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) member nations including Nigeria, however, humanitarian aid will not be affected. This decision signifies the end of free trade between these countries and the ECOWAS region. The bloc, which includes influential economies like Nigeria and Ghana, has long promoted regional economic cooperation. Lulu Gaboo spoke to Fidel Amakye Owusu, an international relations expert and the CEO of DefSEC Analytics Africa
