The Kenyan government has instructed tea factories to stop working with the Rainforest Alliance in getting ethical certification, as the costs involved in securing the ethical label don't add up for farmers. In a meeting following the suspension, the Tea Board of Kenya (TBK), the East African Tea Trade Association (EATTA) and private tea producers have resolved that the suspension of certification and audit processes for tea factories by Rainforest Alliance will remain in force pending a detailed review of its relevance, benefits, and sustainability.
