South Africa’s wind energy sector is considered crucial for addressing the country’s energy needs, reducing load shedding, and meeting its carbon reduction targets. This comes as the Minister of Electricity and Energy, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, implements an Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) to build new generation capacity between now and 2039, valued at $127 billion. The plan is expected to pave South Africa’s road towards achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Thami Ngubeni spoke to Vincenzia Leitich, Executive for Energy & Infrastructure at Standard Bank.
