South Africa's Presidency has welcomed what it describes as encouraging economic gains as the year draws to a close, citing a stronger rand, modest economic growth, and an improvement in employment.
Briefing the media, presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said the currency has strengthened against major competitors, including the US dollar. GDP expanded by 0.5% in the third quarter, and unemployment declined to 31.9%, with the construction sector leading job creation.
