South Africa's official unemployment rate has declined slightly to 31.4 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2025. According to the Quarterly Labour Force Survey, the number of employed persons increased by 44,000 to reach 17.1 million, while the number of unemployed people fell by 172,000 to 7.8 million compared to the previous quarter. As a result, the labour force shrank by 128,000, contributing to a 0.5 percentage point drop in the unemployment rate.
