South Africa signs pre-deal with US to avert 30% tariff on key exports

View descriptionShare

It has been reported that South Africa has signed a pre-deal agreement with the United States, as Pretoria seeks to secure a trade arrangement that would exempt some of its key exports from the looming tariffs, including automobiles, auto parts, steel, and aluminium.

From 1 August, a 30% tariff on USD imports from South Africa is scheduled to take effect, as part of a global "reciprocal" tariff measure. Thami Ngubeni spoke to Viwe Ntshongwana, a Trade Analyst.
