The Eastern Cape province in South Africa is currently facing a severe economic and employment crisis. According to the latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey, a staggering 83,000 jobs were lost in the province between January and March 2025.
Further job losses are expected in the coming months, with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company shutting down operations, while Aspen Pharmacare has announced 923 additional cuts on top of 208 jobs already lost earlier this year.
