South Africa's second biggest party the Democratic Alliance says finance minister Enoch Godongwana should resign. This after the minister withdrew a proposed increase to the value-added tax which was meant to come into effect next Thursday. In a court battle over this issue the minister and Parliament were accused of lying members of Parliament in order to get them to agree to a VAT increase. In a statement issued early morning on Thursday, the minister says not increasing VAT will cost the country 4 billion USD over 3 years.
