South Africa's second biggest party the Democratic Alliance says finance minister Enoch Godongwana should resign. This after the minister withdrew a proposed increase to the value-added tax which was meant to come into effect next Thursday. In a court battle over this issue the minister and Parliament were accused of lying members of Parliament in order to get them to agree to a VAT increase. Wandile Sihlobo, Presidential Envoy on Agriculture and Land and Chief Economist at the Agricultural Business Chamber of South Africa (Agbiz), says the country does not currently face immediate fertiliser supply constraints. However, he warns that prices are rising due to fears of global supply disruptions as the conflict continues to unsettle international commodity markets.
