The South African (SA) Credit and Risk Reporting Association (SACRRA) has launched the industry-first Data Submission Monitor. The SACRRA Data Submission Monitor (SDSM) tool was created to promote the responsible sharing of information in a way that ultimately protects and benefits the consumer.

The association says the SDSM dashboard will give insights into SA's credit and risk data-sharing culture.

Informal traders in South Africa have taken to the streets of the country's economic hub, Johannesburg, protesting what they describe as "harassment" and "ill-treatment" by the metro's municipal authorities. The demonstration follows months of tension over the removal of hundreds of traders from areas within the Inner City Improvement District. City officials say the operation is aimed at promoting order and cleanliness, addressing safety risks, and enforcing bylaw compliance. However, affected traders argue that the clampdown has unfairly targeted legal informal businesses and threatened their livelihoods. Thami Ngubeni spoke to Matron Mhlanga, the General Secretary of the African Traders Organisation.

The country's data watchdog says concerns over Temu's data-processing practices - including online surveillance, opaque handling, cross-border transfers and possible breaches of data-minimisation rules- triggered the investigation. The probe could result in legal penalties in one of Africa's biggest markets.
