The South African government in collaboration with the Southern African Development Community Business Council and the SADC Secretariat is this week hosting the 2026 Annual SADC Industrialisation Week till Friday in KwaZulu-Natal.

 It is held under the theme "Resilient, Sustainable and Inclusive Industrialisation through Infrastructure Development, Agricultural and Critical Minerals Transformation in Pursuit of a Just World". they go on to say that the event serves as a high-level precursor to the 46th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government.

Let's tell you now about the annual Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium South Africa which is set to take place in Cape Town next month (August). It is hosted by Infrastructure South Africa (ISA) and they say that the event will reflect on Strategic Integrated Projects implementation, ISA project preparation work, regulatory reforms and the Adopt-a-Municipality pilot programme.

 It brings together African Government Ministers, mayors, development partners, and private sector and technical experts to assess national infrastructure progress and propel several key infrastructure development programmes forward.

The Zimbabwean government has reportedly registered over 15-thousand returnees from South Africa have been registered for employment as part of the ongoing repatriation programme.

 According to the Zimbabwean government, the registration process aims to facilitate the integration of returnees into the local economy and provide them with opportunities for gainful employment.

The latest Business Leadership South Africa's Reform Tracker shows has turned negative for the first time since it began tracking government progress in 2024.

 They go on to say that while South Africa is making progress on reforms, critical sectors like electricity and logistics are moving backwards, risking economic growth and jobs. So for those who don't know, the reform momentum indicator is a composite measure designed to track, quantify and compare the progress, over successive quarters, of reforms across the three broad categories, namely economic, governance and criminal justice.

 To put it all into context for us and explain why it's important, Thami Ngubeni spoke to Busi Mavuso, CEO of Business Leadership South Africa.
