"Nuclear energy lobby undermines and obstructs the need for net zero to be achieved by 100% clean, sustainable, renewable energy." Civil society organisations

View descriptionShare

The World Bank's board has agreed to end a longstanding ban on funding nuclear energy projects in developing countries as part of a broader push to meet rising electricity needs. They decided in 2013 to stop financing nuclear power projects. Meanwhile, twelve civil society organisations from across the African continent, as well as Europe and Russia, have released a report calling for a nuclear-free Africa. The organisations say the nuclear energy lobby undermines and obstructs the need for net zero to be achieved by 100% clean, sustainable, renewable energy. Thami Ngubeni spoke to Makoma Lekalakala, Director at Earthlife Africa Johannesburg.
