As the world commemorate World Food Day, a non-governmental organisation in South Africa (SA), Union Against Hunger, supported by numerous organisations picketed at the division of the billion US dollar retail giant Shoprite in Centurion, in the Gauteng province of SA. 

 The NGO demanded amongst others that the retailer lower their food prices for the sake of the survival of the poor.

Central banks across the region have responded by establishing bilateral and multilateral agreements to enhance regional financial integration, strengthen payment systems and advance monetary stability.


In a recent development, the Bank of Namibia and the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) have signed a revised Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation between the two central banks. The updated agreement will support closer collaboration in areas such as financial surveillance, regulatory frameworks, payment systems, and cross‑border financial stability.

Bank of Namibia and SARB sign revised MoU to strengthen institutional cooperation

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is in Brazil for a state visit, where he will meet his counterpart, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The visit aims to strengthen diplomatic and political ties while boosting economic and commercial relations.
