Malawi is set to hold elections on 16 September 2025, amid a deepening economic crisis. The country has been experiencing a severe foreign exchange (forex) shortage, primarily caused by a decline in exports, a loss of investor confidence, and an unsustainable debt burden, which has led to high inflation and a scarcity of essential goods, including fuel and medicine.
