Kenyan police, protesters clash over church donation from President

View descriptionShare

Police in Kenya used tear gas to disperse protesters who attempted to occupy a church that recently received a significant donation from President William Ruto.

The Jesus Winner Ministry in the Roysambu suburb of Nairobi was given 155 thousand US dollars, a gift that sparked criticism from some young Kenyans grappling with the high cost of living. Ruto has defended his donation and has also pledged a similar contribution to another church in Eldoret.

To give us more insights on the protests Thami Ngubeni spoke to Chris Thairu, political editor at Kenyan Television Network.
