The South African wine industry marked a significant milestone at the Cape Town International Convention Centre last week. They celebrated 30 years of democracy and transformation.

It was attended by industry leaders and stakeholders who gathered to discuss and strategise the future of South African wine.

The summit, under the theme "Focus, Believe, Implement," resonated with a clear message of seizing opportunities and positioning South African wine as a global leader in sustainability and innovation.

There were also calls for tax relief on local wine producers as they are often facing challenges of production costs. Channel Africa's Michael Mbewe spoke to Wine SA CEO, Rico Bason to find out what were some of the highlights

SA's wine industry marks a significant milestone

Zambia's electricity generating company, ZESCO has increased the hours of power cuts from eight to 12, staggered in six-hour periods each day, citing that this is a move to ensure there is electricity supply until the end of the year.

The power cuts were introduced due to a drop in dam water levels at Kariba Dam. Energy Minister Peter Kapala says the water available for electricity generation at the Kariba Dam was 39% as of May 14.

It is currently generating 166 megawatts of power, less than its 1,080-megawatt capacity. For more on this Thami Ngubeni spoke to an Economist based in Zambia, Yusuf Dodia...
