The International Labour Organization (ILO) warns of a silent crisis in the global economy, one resulting in over 840,000 deaths each year. This crisis is linked to workplace stress and poor job design which include long hours to job insecurity and psychosocial risks such as harassment.
The United Nations agency says there is not just a human cost involved, but also result in business draining an estimated 1.37% of global GDP.
Joining us now to discuss the current set up of the world of work, and what organisations can do to better improve working conditions, is Prof. Andrew Thatcher, Chair of Industrial/Organisational psychology at Wits as well as President of the International Ergonomics Association.
