How the SMME sector can stay afloat under difficult economic situations

We end the show by reminding ourselves about the cost of plastic and what the levy that was set up to deter us from using it is actually making us pay for more.

Declan Cherry is a director at Traderbag, a supplier of customized sustainable paper shopping bags says that consumers are not aware that they are actually made to carry the costs of plastic bag levy that keeps going up.

He goes on to say that there was little transparency around how these charges were calculated. But then how do you change the consumer's mindset?

Consumers not aware how they are fuelling the plastic levy tax

Ghana's parliament is said to have passed a bill that could send cocoa farmers to prison for up to 20 years if they convert their farms to other uses without government approval.

The new measure was reportedly passed last week Thursday, but the contents of the law were not made public until late Sunday. 

The country's President John Mahama has apparently not yet signed the law yet.

The legislation would give all cocoa farms protected status, making it a criminal offense to repurpose them for anything else without authorization, drawing criticism from farmers.
