Environmental group Greenpeace has raised concerns over the gas leak detected at the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) field, operated by BP off the coast of Senegal and Mauritania.  It has been reported that soon after the gas project's production began, fishermen in the area started to notice a large number of bubbles in the sea, with the multinational oil and gas company, BP, saying the gas leak had no immediate impact on ongoing production activities from the remaining wells. Wandile Sihlobo, Presidential Envoy on Agriculture and Land and Chief Economist at the Agricultural Business Chamber of South Africa (Agbiz), says the country does not currently face immediate fertiliser supply constraints. However, he warns that prices are rising due to fears of global supply disruptions as the conflict continues to unsettle international commodity markets.
