Senegal and its neighbouring country, Mauritania, have officially become gas producers with the commencement of operations at the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) field, which spans the maritime border between the two nations.

British company BP, a key player in the project, announced in a press statement that gas production has now begun from the GTA wells.

Alongside BP, US-based Kosmos Energy, Mauritania's SMH, and Senegal's Petrosen are also involved in utilizing the field.

After six years of planning, the launch of this major project has been hailed as historic by Senegal's Oil Minister.

Chinese-owned gold Mine, Sino Africa Huijin Holdings, is under scrutiny over its operations in the Mutasa District of Manicaland, in Zimbabwe.

The company has been operating a gold mine in the country's eastern region and is now facing accusations of severe environmental destruction and community harm.

Villagers and community groups have complained about the blasting that has taken place at the mine.

Nearby residents have reported widespread ecological damage, including the decimation of a mountain and the displacement of wildlife.

The South African Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) wrapped up the year on a weak note, with private sector firms reporting the first decline in business activity in four months. S&P Global's latest survey reveals that subdued demand led to stagnant sales growth and a slowdown in hiring.

The sector also faced rising inflationary pressures, with increased costs pushing firms to raise their selling prices. As a result, the outlook for 2025 softened, with business confidence retreating from recent multi-year highs.

On the brighter side, however, supply chain pressures appeared to ease, prompting firms to increase their input purchases.
