As of the first of May, Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) will have exclusive authority to regulate and control the country's artisanal and small-scale gold mining. This follows an order barring foreigners from trading in gold, as the West African country looks to streamline gold purchases from small-scale miners, increasing earnings and reducing smuggling. In a statement,  GoldBod spokesperson Prince Kwame Minkah says foreign traders may apply to the GoldBod to buy or off-take gold directly from the state body.
