Different sectors in Africa are gearing up for the G2O summit expected to be held later this year in South Africa (SA) for the first time on African soil. In Agriculture farmers are expecting that the summit will bring about solutions to their challenges and improve the economic outlook of the continent.

 Earlier this week stakeholders in the agricultural sector converged in SA's capital Pretoria, for the national dialogue in preparation for the G20's Meeting of Agricultural Chief Scientists known as MACS -G20 that will be held in in May.

Sisi Segalo took time outside of the dialogue to speak to some farmers about their expectations.

South African farmers are coming under growing pressure as global fertiliser prices climb amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, raising concerns about rising production costs, potential impacts on crop yields and the knock‑on effect on food prices.


Wandile Sihlobo, Presidential Envoy on Agriculture and Land and Chief Economist at the Agricultural Business Chamber of South Africa (Agbiz), says the country does not currently face immediate fertiliser supply constraints. However, he warns that prices are rising due to fears of global supply disruptions as the conflict continues to unsettle international commodity markets.
