Founder and President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, over the weekend told the media that persistent fuel imports are undermining domestic refining efforts and threatening jobs.
Dangote added that imports are being exploited to "checkmate domestic potential," shifting employment and investment overseas while Nigeria struggles to expand its industrial base. He also called for an official inquiry into Farouk Ahmed, head of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, citing concerns over alleged mismanagement and personal expenditures exceeding legitimate earnings.
Thami Ngubeni spoke to senior international trade consultant and author of Economic Diplomacy of the Diaspora, Collins Nweke.
