Dangers of Illegal mining in South African communities, following Boksburg leak

The recent gas leak tragedy in Boksburg, South Africa, has highlighted the dangers of illegal mining in the country. 17 people were killed on Wednesday after they inhaled a poisonous gas substance in Angelo informal settlement. Illegal miners, commonly referred to as zama-zamas, allegedly got their hands on a nitrate oxide gas tank which they intended to use in their illegal mining activities. 

Speaking to Channel Africa reporter Lebogang Mabange Doctor Nelson Chipangamate from the Wits Mining Institute explains how incidents like this highlight the broader issue of illegal mining in the country
