The recent gas leak tragedy in Boksburg, South Africa, has highlighted the dangers of illegal mining in the country. 17 people were killed on Wednesday after they inhaled a poisonous gas substance in Angelo informal settlement. Illegal miners, commonly referred to as zama-zamas, allegedly got their hands on a nitrate oxide gas tank which they intended to use in their illegal mining activities.
