The African Unite Border Bus Truck Association is calling for the implementation of a one-stop border system following severe traffic congestion outside the Beitbridge Border Post in Musina earlier this week. The traffic backlog, which stretched for approximately 20 km, has been attributed to slow processing times and limited parking capacity on the Zimbabwean side of the border.

The association says the introduction of a one-stop border post system could help ease congestion, improve efficiency and reduce delays at one of the region’s busiest border crossings.

For businesses that rely on cross-border trade, prolonged delays can result in significant costs, including increased fuel consumption, driver overtime, missed delivery deadlines and disruptions to supply chains.

To discuss the cost implications for businesses and what these delays mean for regional trade, Thami Ngubeni spoke to Phumudzo Mukhwathi, Chairperson of the African Unite Border Bus Truck Association.
