Cement importer, Augutich Investments (Private) Limited, has approached the court to seek an interdict against the Zimbabwean government over the recently introduced surtax, which they claim is unlawful and contradicts the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) regulations. This was after 50 haulage trucks laden with white cement were held up at the Chirundu Border Post after the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) began enforcing a newly introduced 30 per cent surtax on imports.
