AFCFTA is entering a decisive implementation phase as Africa positions itself for stronger economic integration: Ruto

View descriptionShare

Kenyan President William Ruto says the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) is entering a decisive implementation phase as Africa positions itself for stronger economic integration, industrial growth and expanded global trade.

Speaking at the recently concluded 39th African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Ruto — the AU Champion on AFCFTA implementation — highlighted progress since the agreement became operational in January 2021, noting that key protocols and institutional frameworks are now in place.

He stressed that the focus has shifted from negotiations to delivering tangible benefits for Africa's one-point-four billion people, with the trade pact aimed at transforming borders into bridges for investment, enterprise and continental prosperity under Agenda 2063.
