South Africa's Department of Mineral Resource and Energy has uncovered that 70 petrol stations across the country are selling fake diesel to customers. It has been reported that during the period of April and December 2023, the department received 70 failed diesel samples and issued non-compliance notice to all petrol stations found with fake diesel.
The watered-down diesel is allegedly contaminated and mixed with illuminated paraffin. For more on this Thami Ngubeni spoke to Robert Maake, Director for Fuel Pricing at the Department of Mineral Resource and Energy.
