PATOMAC IN PERIL: Massive Sewage Spill Sparks Blame Game

View descriptionShare

A catastrophic sewer line collapse has sent more than 240 million gallons of raw sewage into the Potomac River, triggering what the EPA calls an ecological crisis of “historic proportion.” The political finger‑pointing around the Potomac River sewage disaster has become almost as messy as the spill itself. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore and other regional leaders argue the federal government bears responsibility for coordinating the response to one of the largest sewage spills in U.S. history. Meanwhile, environmental advocates note that DC Water operates the failed Potomac Interceptor pipe and had already identified it as needing repair.
