PAIN AT THE PUMP: California Refinery Shutdowns Push Prices Far Above U.S. Average

View descriptionShare

California drivers are feeling the squeeze as gas prices surge nearly 40 cents in just two weeks, driven by major refinery closures that are tightening the state’s already limited fuel supply. With the statewide average now hovering around $4.58 per gallon, Californians are paying far more than the national average of about $2.92. The wind‑down of Valero’s Benicia refinery and the closure of Phillips 66’s Los Angeles facility have left the state with only six operating refineries, amplifying volatility and pushing prices sharply upward.

Also, Karoline Leavitt talks gas prices during the White House press briefing.
