The Bird Of The Week is the Oxpecker!

Endemic to sub-Saharan Africa, there are two species of Oxpecker, the Yellow-billed Oxpecker and the Red-billed Oxpecker. These birds live in close association with many species of herbivore in Africa and spend their time picking ectoparasites out of their hosts' coats. Generally, the Oxpeckers are of benefit to their hosts but they also sometimes keep wounds from healing as they enjoy a delicious blood meal every so often. Is this a mutually beneficial relationship or is it parasitism?
