Thirty Years of Hope: Ride for the Kids and Supporting Families Facing Childhood Brain Conditions

View descriptionShare

Hearing that your child has a serious medical condition is a terrifying moment that changes a family’s world overnight. Thirty years ago, Josephine Nicholls AM faced that exact reality when her young son, Nic Cox, was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Navigating the exhaustion, uncertainty, and long hospital days inspired her to create Brainwave Australia—ensuring no family has to walk that difficult path alone.

Now celebrating its milestone 30th anniversary in 2026, Brainwave supports over 1,900 children living with neurological conditions across Australia. With Nic now grown, a father, and serving as the charity’s Patron, this full-circle story continues to bring hope to thousands.

Brent sit's down with Josephine Nicholls AM to reflect on three decades of impact, the power of community, and how you can get involved in the Ride for the Kids cycling challenge this October to raise vital funds for essential therapies, equipment, and family support.
