On this episode of The Doctor’s Desk, Brent sits down with Dr. Matt to cover two important health topics: pudendal neuralgia and psoriasis.
Pudendal neuralgia is chronic nerve pain in the pelvis and perineum, often described as burning, sharp, or like “sitting on a golf ball.” It usually worsens when sitting and improves when standing or lying down. Dr. Matt explains causes like cycling, horse riding, childbirth, or pelvic surgery, and shares prevention tips, treatments, and when to seek medical help.
Psoriasis, on the other hand, isn’t just a rash – it’s your immune system overreacting. It creates white chalky or red scaly patches that itch, crack, or bleed. Treatments range from creams and light therapy to tablets and advanced injections. Lifestyle factors like stress, smoking, alcohol, and weight can make it worse. Brent shares a memorable patient story: a tradie’s psoriasis was triggered by detergent trapped in a reflective strip on his work shirt, and simply double-rinsing his clothes cleared the patch. Medicine, as Brent says, is “a little detective drama with a surprise ending.”
