Space, the Moon and the New Space Race

View descriptionShare

Brent talks space science with David Reneke as we explore three big stories shaping our view of the universe.

First, scientists have found that the Moon may be more geologically active than we once thought. New mapping shows more than 2,600 fault ridge pieces, suggesting the Moon is slowly shrinking as it cools. These “wrinkles” on the lunar surface could matter if humans one day build permanent Moon bases.

Second, we look at NASA’s first medical evacuation from space. An astronaut became unwell on the International Space Station and was stabilised before returning to Earth. The case highlights how space medicine is developing as missions become longer.

Third, the world is entering a new space launch race. Europe is building rocket launch sites in Arctic regions as demand for satellites grows. Experts say satellite numbers could rise to tens of thousands as global communication, mapping and internet services expand.

If you are interested in astronomy, space travel, and the future of exploration, this episode is for you.
