On November 3, 1941, amidst the dark days of World War II, a brand-new commercial radio station launched from Gympie’s Olympia Theatre to keep regional Queensland informed, entertained, and connected. Today, sister station 4GY celebrates an incredible milestone—85 years on the airwaves!

Brent speaks with 4GY BIG Breakfast host Rick Hose about 8.5 decades of regional broadcasting history. From the early era of 8-track tapes and cart machines to modern digital streaming from Geordie Road in Monkland, Rick breaks down how 4GY has served as the heartbeat of the Gympie region, Noosa Shire, the Cooloola Coast, and the Mary Valley—and why local radio remains the ultimate lifeline during floods, fires, and emergency crises.
