9th October became World Post Day in 1969, marking the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern. To celebrate the day, 8CCC's Kate Lyons-Dawson spoke with Tatyana Leonov, an Australian travel writer, editor and founder of World Letters - a children’s travel series that brings beautifully written adventures from around the world straight to their letterboxes, illustrated by Helen Ayle. Its first collection, Elsewhere, follows two sisters, Aria and Mimsy, as they discover a new destination in each letter. Her work has appeared in publications including BBC Travel, Lonely Planet, Traveller, Escape and Sunday Life, and every destination featured in World Letters is somewhere she has personally travelled. The characters are inspired by Tatyana and Evan’s two daughters Ariana and Millie. Millie lives with Angelman Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that causes severe intellectual and physical disability.
