Savika and Amanda visited the Tennant Creek studio to share information about the week-long events into the lead up to International Women’s Day (IWD) in Tennant Creek. From Monday 2nd March at 9am everyone can meet at the NLC office for the community march toward Peko Park, followed by a celebration at Civic Hall. Guest speakers, cultural performances, and information stalls from local organisations will feature. On Tuesday 3 March from 10am to 12pm the Cake Circle will be held at the Community Shed (186 Patterson Street). This event explores the theme of "sharing the carrying" and provides morning tea in a culturally safe space. Also at 10am all are welcome at the Grandmothers Morning Tea, located at Anyinginyi Public Health. This event recognizes the vital role grandmothers play in nurturing families and preserving culture.
On Wednesday, 4th March at 4pm come to Tennant Creek Youth Centre to watch Moana 2 for Youth Movie Night. At 10.30am Thursday, 5th March come join the Women’s High Tea at Anna’s Restaurant to celebrate women working across health, government, and community services. Contact reception@tcw.org.au to RSVP.
The Family Fun Day & Barbecue at Lake Mary Dam/ Tingkkarli starts at 10am on Friday 6th March for mothers, carers, aunties, grandmothers, and their allies.
And finally on Sunday, 8th March at 10am a Community Softball Gamewill take place at Purkiss Reserve.
Important Note: Men and allies are encouraged to attend these events in solidarity with the women in their lives. Prizes will also be available to win throughout the week.
