Rita Jabri Markwell is a human rights and public interest litigation lawyer and public policy contributor. Over her career, she has worked for Muslim, Aboriginal, and Stolen Generations’ advocacy organisations, and as a ministerial adviser. She spoke with 8CCC's Kate Lyons-Dawson about the importance of the weekend's Close Pine Gap Sacred Land Back Convergence in Mparntwe Alice Springs where she spoke on the Sunday plenary session 'Pine Gap, AUKUS and Breaking Australia's Ties to the US Alliance'.

She also explained the Red Lines Package of draft Bills she and others are presenting to Parliament mid-September. Australia has a legal duty under international law to prevent genocide and not be involved in crimes against humanity, yet our current laws don’t do enough to stop Australia from being complicit in these crimes through charity work, institutional partnerships, trillion-dollar investments, military trade, and embedded personnel. The Red Lines Package would address these gaps.
