Dr Chrischona Schmidt, Manager of Ikuntji Artists chatted with 8CCC Big Brekky about their string of well-earned accolades throughout 2024. The small community of Ikuntji/Haasts Bluff was celebrated as Northern Territory Tidy Town 2024, while Hayley Dodd was named Young Legend for her work as a model this year. 
Ikuntji Artists was the first art centre established for women of the Western Desert art movement and now opportunity has bloomed with some big awards, including the 2024 Chief Minister’s NT Exporter of the Year and being named state winners in two categories of the 2024 Telstra Best of Business Awards: ‘Accelerating Women’, and ‘Building Communities’. The 2024 ABLE Golden Book Award was for Ikuntji Textiles, their self published book about the development of the designs, their stories, collaborations and the artists behind them.
