Brett Jensen kicks off the show with some breaking news that you can only get here or on X @Brett_Jensen. Yesterday, at J.M. Alexander Middle School in Huntersville, a fight broke out between a boy and a girl that ended with the girl stabbing the boy in the eye with the handle of a comb. The girl was arrested and taken to Stonewall Jackson Youth Development Center, there have been no updates on the boy's condition.  

Brett also discusses what is happening with the youth in Mecklenburg County, the kids aren't scared of the repercussions because they know they'll get a slap on the wrist and be back home in no time. Many of the magistrates are either uninformed or serving as social justice warriors rather than serving the people of Mecklenburg County.  

Later, Brett discusses election recounts in the closest races and protests across the state. The odds of any elections being overturned by a recount are slim to none with modern ballots being scanned by machines. Brett shares an example of a previous recount where approximately 1 in 130,000 votes were overturned. The protests revolve around these hotly contested races with recounts expected.

 Less than a week following Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden’s apology video on leaked audio that captures him using two racial slurs, he sat down for his first interview with WBT’s Brett Jensen, who first reported on the audio in 2022.

The video interview was roughly 40 minutes long and covered a wide range of topics, most of which centered around the controversies that have risen over the course of McFadden’s six years in office.

The interview was extensive and intensive, and included such topics as the audio, racism, jail deaths, workplace environment, the closed juvenile detention center, as well as what the N.C. Sheriff’s Association had to say during his meeting with the board last week.

“Well, the North Carolina Sheriff’s Association did put out a hard statement, and I expected them to put out a hard statement” McFadden said. “Last Thursday, I met with a panel of 12 in a room, and I can tell you we had about an hour discussion."… “

For the next hour, I spoke my heart. And I spoke to every sheriff in there – some individually. Some asked me a lot of questions and some sheriffs said, ‘We expected you to come in here and tell us something. But we were more interested if you were going to tell us the truth.’ …

“Thursday, they wrote a letter and as far as they’re concerned, that is it. Be careful what you say. Understand that people hold you to a higher standard. I told them I’m human. … I think that most of the sheriffs in there understood that and we had a great conversation.”

Breaking Brett Jensen kicks off the show by talking about the 2024 elections in Mecklenburg County and how they are officially over with the last of the provisional ballots being counted today. Tricia Cotham started the day up by 215 votes with 214 provisional votes left to be counted, 73 of the votes were counted today before Cotham was officially elected to the North Carolina House for the 105th District. Representative Cotham was public enemy no. 1 for the Democratic party, who spent millions of dollars on attack ads and support for her opponent, going so far as to have celebrities and even the VP Tim Wallz.

Later, Brett shares Sheriff Garry McFadden's apology for the video that has been blowing up recently showing Sheriff McFadden using racist slurs. Although the audio is over two years old, a recent republishing has sparked a new interest that has Sheriff McFadden's feet to the fire. In his apology video, he takes full responsibility for his actions and accepts that as Sheriff he is held to a higher standard. Sheriff McFadden claims that he remains committed to the work of the Sheriff, protecting the people of Mecklenburg county and the residents within the jail.
