Today on "Breaking with Brett Jensen," ahead of the upcoming 2022 Charlotte City Council elections, Brett sat down with former City Councilor LaWana Mayfield, who is running for the position once again after losing her spot in 2019.

Mayfield served as a councilor for eight years in Charlotte, and explains what motivated her to try and run again and how the perspective she gained in her time away might help turn around the City Council. She also talks to Brett about how her upbringing taught her self-reliance and other skills she feels would be an asset for the Council.

Brett also asks Mayfield questions about her controversial past, including comments she's made about September 11 as well as the police. She discussed why she won't apologize for her comments and what she would do differently if she had another chance.

Elections for the mayor and city council in Charlotte are on July 26.
