Tune in this Thursday for the latest edition of Breaking with Brett Jensen!
Brett Jensen kicks off the show with a major announcement: Mecklenburg County Manager Dena Diorio has revealed her plans to retire in 2025. Currently serving her 11th year in the role, Diorio shared her decision with the Board of County Commissioners.
Later in the show, Brett interviews Dena Diorio, who reflects on her notable achievements. Among her accomplishments are the creation of the MECK PreK program, which has provided thousands of four-year-olds with high-quality preschool education, and the opening of two Community Resource Centers. These centers were designed to streamline and consolidate the delivery of essential human services, bringing them closer to where residents live and work.
Diorio shares, “I have been steadfast in facing challenges while ensuring fiscal responsibility and security. My goal was to leave Mecklenburg County a better place than when I arrived, and I believe I have accomplished that. When I became County Manager, a national study showed we were 50 out of 50 in economic mobility. We are now 38 out of 50. I know the County made great efforts to move that needle in the right direction.”
