Vans and the Man Ep. 2: Comedy, Beatles Memories, Billie Eilish & the Rise of Texas Twang

In Episode102 of Vans and the Man, Baron Wiley and his daughter Vans Wiley talk about their shared love of music and comedy, including Vans’ Second City sketch-writing class in Chicago and influences like Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. They discuss Amy Poehler’s intimate interview with Paul McCartney, Conan O’Brien’s early McCartney interview, and Vans’ “unconsensual” Beatles knowledge from childhood, including “Yellow Submarine” and changing formats from records to streaming.

They debate who today matches McCartney’s iconic status, highlighting Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, and Chappell Roan, plus the role of Finneas in Billie’s sound. The conversation shifts to concert costs, festivals in Chicago, streaming economics, and a “Young Twang” playlist tracking the growing popularity of Texas/Southern culture, with artists like Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves, Miranda Lambert, and Ray Wylie Hubbard’s “Snake Farm” story involving Ringo Starr.
